How does a 30-year old manage adult acne without spending so much?
I recently stumbled into this great ad promising how I will have clear and great skin and I even went to the clinic. Guess what? I have to pay P20K. I do not like spending that much especially if I cannot be guaranteed that it will be like that forever but if I have to do so much maintenance and spending so much to the same clinic over the span of multiple years, I am keeping my P20K and just plan my next out of the country trip. Let me just share how I resolved this a few years back. This is an old post from my previous blog. I had 906 views in a span of 3 years.
I grew up not really having a perfect skin but I did not have problem with pimples or acne either during my puberty and my young adult years. I may have a pimple once in a while but if my face had a main issue back then it would have been dry skin which I really did not care that much at all. I had combination skin meaning, most of my skin is dry, I have oily spots, around the T-zone to be specific but my face is not glossy so I was not really bothered. I was just 25 when all of a sudden I had cystic acne. Read through the post for the whole story.
Original post (from August 13,2014 though some parts may be editted):
I have been having issues with cystic acne since March 2013. I don’t know what to do anymore so I just decided to give up. I’ve done it all, I saw the derma, drink pills and facials. The medications, cream and facial scrub(prescribed and over the counter) that I used did not help to make the problem go away. I just let it be and prayed for the best. I went to Manaoag and it was one of my prayers and after a few days, my aunt told me about Beauche, I read some reviews online and it was a mixed review, I tell you. Some says that it works and some says it does not and I prayed that hopefully it works for me. I was not afraid to try because it didn’t cost that much and you can use Beauche for 6-8 weeks. Luckily, I did not feel the pain and the smelliness that they were saying; maybe I just have strong tolerance. The toner has a strong cough syrup smell but I like it. I also felt the little pain when putting on the toner or the creams but after that, it’s ok.
On my 5th week onwards, I noticed an increase in blackheads, something that I have noticed whenever I use hydroquinone for a long time. Hydroquinone is in the clarifying solution. I read in some articles that hydroquinone is not really good for the skin. I have been trying to research if hydroquinone has something to do with someone having blackheads. Hydroquinone can cause redness and skin irritation. It also makes skin more susceptible to sun damage, a possible carcinogen and is not really good combined with other products. After eight weeks, when the clarifying solution ran out, I just used toner every day and the creams every other night. I no longer see the blackheads and eventhough the acne has not gone away, I noticed a changed in my skin and I shall continue using this product and I highly recommend it.
Here’s how you use it.
1. You use the toner to clear your skin at night.
2. Wash your face with the soap.
3. Use the clarifying solution.
4. Apply a thin layer of the exfoliating cream and after 15 minutes follow it with the rejuvinating cream.
5. In the morning, use ice or cold water to wash your face with the soap and then apply the age eraser cream.
UPDATE:
The bottom line is that this product worked. I have a changed of heart though, I no longer recommend this product that much. First of all, it requires a long time for you to see changes, It took five weeks to see the improvement of my skin so over the last three years since I used Beauche, I switched to different products. If you are really looking for something that helped out on the breakouts, you might want to try Dr. Alvin’s. I used Dr. Alvin’s for about 6 months. My face became rosy pink but it was so thin that there are glares whenever someone takes a picture of me and there is no flash. I suddenly stopped and tried to figure out what was really causing the breakouts after it subside and it was 3 things, poor hygiene, stress and allergens. I stopped eating eggs, I sleep and exercise to destress and I ensure I wash my face. Along the way, I used Perla and it also helped. There was a huge improvement. A lot of people were asking me what I did because everything was gone, yes there were still some scars but my face was almost back to how it was before my adult acne started in 2013. The usual answer that I gave to everyone is prayers and being nice. LOL. I’m sorry that I did not keep the pictures of how I originally looked, I am just so ashamed and I am still suffering adult acne. I still believe that the 3 things that I mentioned earlier are still the culprit of my bad skin. Back in 2013, I remembered how much I love make-up and sleep with them because those were the days that I thought that I am amazing and bad skin will not find me. I think me having adult acne made me realize that I have to take care of my skin. How my skin looks like is actually how my insides are. Sounds confusing, well, I just notice that whenever I am not the healthiest version of me, I have breakouts and headaches, I know you might be thinking that’s just PMS but not really so my plan besides having a better hygiene is to take care of what I eat, workout and do not be stressed. The last part might be a challenge but I’ll work on it.
To answer the question earlier, how does one deals with adult acne without spending so much money?
You can consider over the counter products or korean brands that are trending so much because of the koreans amazing skin. In purchasing products, you may want to study the ingredients of the products. I also looked in products with tea-tree. I can remember purchasing something from Body Shop, it did help with the redness and with the break-out and I’m sorry I really cannot remember it but it comes in a green packaging. I also remembered that salicyclic acid is important in acne treatment so I tried the one from Etude House, they have a whole line for that treatment, it came in yellow green packaging. I like how it really helped my skin, less redness, less breakout, my pimples dried easily. I love the pink solution that was used for spot treatment, I just really did not like how long it takes for the whole routine. It was not even a routine in the morning or at night but different morning and bedtime routine, you can just imagine how time consuming it was.
Make sure that you do your research first, check online reviews to see if it will target your problem and be aware of the possible side effects. We know most skin products are pricey so you might want to really look into different reviews before purchase. Do not forget that hygiene is still the key. Hygiene and a healthy body. Keep hydrated, stay clear from the sun, pray and always be nice.
Money spent: P700-800 for the Beauche package, I really do not remember very well since it’s been a while since I used it.
P400- Dr. Alvin’s package, it’s been a while since I purchased one as well so I’m sorry if I am not that accurate.
Level of satisfaction: So-so. I am not that satisfied since I still have this problem but I cannot deny how it has improved my face.
